ERA4Health: Prevent Overweight and Obesity Call 2026
ERA4Health brings together public funders of health research in the European Research Area. Both Israel and Germany participate in the Prevent-OO Call 2026. Topics: 1. Understanding causes of obesity and overweight and its complications with mechanistic research; 2. Prevention and public health strategies for critical transitional periods of life. Project proposals must cover only one of the two topics and should follow a multidisciplinary approach.

Leo Baeck Fellowship 2026 / 2027
The international Leo Baeck Fellowship Programme awards fellowships to doctoral students who carry out research into the field of German-Jewish history and culture. It is open to doctoral candidates of any nationality, studying at any university. Up to 10 fellows will be selected for the programme in the academic year 2026/27. The fellowships run from October 2026 to September 2027. Fellows receive a monthly living allowance of EUR 1,650 and a monthly research allowance of EUR 100.

1st EUP OHAMR Joint Transnational Call for Projects
This first EUP OHAMR joint call for transnational research and innovation projects will explore new treatments to tackle Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The call “Treatments and adherence to treatment protocols”, involves 37 funding organisations from 28 different countries, including Israel and Germany. An online partner search tool is available. The call is co-funded by the European Union.

Joint Transnational Call (JTC)
The European Partnership for Personalised Medicine, EP PerMed, is a platform for the joint planning of European research and innovation activities. EP PerMed funding organisations from 27 countries (including Israel and Germany) have announced the Joint Transnational Call “Personalised Medicine for CARdiovascular, MEtabolic, and kidNey diseases” (CARMEN 2026), co-funded by the EU.

Research Cooperation Lower Saxony – Israel 2026
With this funding programme, the Ministry of Research and Culture in Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation fund excellent collaborative research projects between researchers from Israel and Lower Saxony. The 2026 call will fund projects in Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering Sciences. The funding amount is up to 500.000 EUR
for a period of up to 4 years.

EP Brain Health Calls 2026
The European Partnership for Brain Health has published two calls for proposals for multinational translational research projects. Both Germany and Israel are participating in these calls. The aim is to investigate biological, social and environmental factors that affect the development of brain health over the course of a lifetime. Call 1: in the field of neurological, mental and sensory disorders. Call 2: in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.

30th Call German-Israeli Project Cooperation (DIP)
The German-Israeli Project Cooperation (DIP) is considered the “flagship of German-Israeli science cooperation” . Within this framework, the BMFTR funds research projects for generally up to 5 years. Up to 3 projects are selected each year. The DIP is open to all scientific fields. Only 8 Israeli institutions are eligible to apply. The German partners are not eligible to apply themselves, but are involved via the Israeli project application.

ISF-DFG Standing Open Procedure on a Lead Agency Basis
Israeli-German research teams are invited to submit outstanding joint research proposals within the scope of basic research in all fields of the sciences and the humanities in this joint funding opportunity of the DFG and the ISF. This Standing Open Procedure works without proposal deadlines, although a yearly pre-registration obligation of the Israeli researchers on the ISF side is required.

Young Scientists Exchange Program (YSEP)
In order to encourage young scientists to engage themselves in the Water Technology Research Programme in the framework of the German-Israeli Cooperation, BMBF and MOST have initiated a young scientists exchange programme in 1999. The programme is open to Israeli and German students, post graduates, doctoral degree students, and post doctorate candidates who wish to spend a training period in Israel or Germany for 1 to 6 months.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation invites Germany-based researchers from various fields to apply to participate in the 16th German-Israeli Frontiers of Humanities Symposium (GISFOH), organised jointly with the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities (IASH), focusing on the theme of “Access”. Max Planck – Weizmann Joint Postdoctoral Program
The Max Planck Society (MPG), based in Germany, and the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS), located in Israel, offer outstanding postdoctoral researchers in the fields of physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, earth sciences and life sciences a prestigious position in a unique research environment. The programme is designed to last 4 years, with half of the time spent at MPG and half at WIS. Relocation expenses are covered up to a fixed ammount.

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026 / 2027
This fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines to advance their work at Israeli academic institutions. Fellows receive a 14,000 ILS monthly stipend. The fellowship is offered for 2 years. Renewal for a third year will be considered favourably based on a competitive evaluation process. Baden-Württemberg State Parliament Scholarship
The State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg is providing the scholarship funds to students and young researchers to promote Germany-Israel relations. In the case of funding for individuals, their special interest in a stay in Israel or Baden-Württemberg within the scope of the programme is a decisive factor. The scholarship is not merit-based. It primarily pursues an intercultural approach and is intended to promote international understanding.

BioDiversa+: BiodivConnect
2025-2026 Joint Call
Co-funded by the European Commission, this call, along with actions from the Flagship Programme “Supporting protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystem across land and sea” aims to produce actionable knowledge for transformative change to halt and reverse biodiversity decline. Azrieli International Visiting PhD Fellowship
This fellowship is open to PhD candidates from all countries and academic disciplines. It enables them to undertake short-term research (3 to 4 months) at leading academic institutions in Israel starting in March 2026. Fellows will receive 12,000 ILS per month for up to 4 months. Applications for the Fall 2026 semester will open in March 2026. Please note that candidates for this fellowship must secure an academic sponsor in Israel before applying.

COST Open Call 2025
COST is a European funding initiative for the creation of research networks, called COST Actions. Both Israel and Germany are participating in COST. COST Actions bring together researchers and innovators to investigate a topic of their choice (bottom-up-approach) for 4 years. COST Actions are different to many other EU funded projects because it is possible to join and participate in a research network even after it has started running, throughout the entire lifespan of the Action.

Martin Buber Society Fellowship Call 2026 / 2027
The Martin Buber Society of Fellows aims at fostering interdisciplinary academic discourse at the highest level among outstanding young post-doctoral scholars. Applicants must have their PhD degree in hand no earlier than October 1st, 2021, and no later than July 1st, 2026. Application is open for those specialising in all fields of the Humanities and the Social Sciences. No connection of the subject matter to Jewish studies or Israel is required.
